268,000 irregular migrants caught in 2018: Turkish Minister

Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu announced Friday that 268,000 irregular migrants were caught by the end of 2018.

Minister of the Interior noted that terrorism, irregular migration, and drug trafficking threaten humanity in the 21st century,

Stating that drug-related deaths in the world are growing exponentially, Soylu drew attention that the most vicious, most lethal synthetic drugs have ever been produced in Europe's advanced laboratories.

Soylu underlined that organizations such as DEASH, PKK/PYD, FETO, etc. are in a relationship with the global powers. "Unfortunately, great states are dealing with them, training them, giving them weapons, fighting with others, using them as a vehicle. As Turkiye, we are on the most critical geographical routes of almost all of these problems."

"The young population of our country, especially those who manage terrorist organizations and drug trade, discourages the appetite," he said.

Soylu stated that 129,787 operations carried out against a variety of illegal organizations, while 147,564 operations carried out against drug-dealers in 2018. "The financial value of the drug seized in Turkey in 2018 is 3.5 billion Turkish Liras. As of the end of last year, the number of irregular migrants we have captured is 268,000 people. These numbers are the numbers that the developed countries of the world, those have money but little conscience will be afraid to hear."
