EU to apply visa mandatory to 60 countries

The European Union is obliged to obtain visas for the citizens of 60 countries, including the USA, who want to travel to the countries within its body.

In the EU's official website, within the scope of the European Travel Information and Authorization System [ETIAS] program, citizens of 60 countries will have to apply visa to go to the EU Schengen Region as of 2021.

Starting in 2021, the European Commission will roll out an electronic travel authorization system for visitors from countries that are currently not part of the EU.

The system will check the security credentials and charge a fee to travelers visiting EU member countries for business, tourism, medical or transit purposes.

The current EU visa application and vetting procedures for entering the Schengen area depend only upon the citizenship of the visitor and are cost-free.

The ETIAS, like the ESTA, will streamline this visa process for those people who do not need a visa at present but will undergo additional security checks prior to allowing entry into the EU.

The ETIAS travel authorization will be mandatory for citizens of countries who currently do not require visas to enter Europe including the United States, Venezuela, Japan Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

ETIAS will be applied on the internet for a fee of 7 euro and travel 90 days or less without receiving a Schengen Visa. This does not apply to Turkiye, because the Schengen visa is applied in Turkiye will not be requested to ETIAS.

The regulation adopted by the European Commission in 2016 is said to have been agreed in the context of "anti-terrorism and illegal immigration".
