Explosion in Turkish Petroleum Refineries Corp.: 4 dead

Four people lost their lives in the explosion took place in the storage tank in the refinery of TUPRAŞ [Turkish Petroleum Refineries Corp.] in Izmir and 2 people were injured.

It was reported that two people lost their lives in the explosion in the storage tank at the Turkish Petroleum Refineries [TUPRAS] in İzmir's Aliağa district, 2 others were wounded.

According to the information, an explosion took place in the storage tank of TUPRAŞ's refinery in Izmir at 09.25.

According to initial determinations in the explosion, 4 people lost their lives and 2 people were seriously injured.

After the explosion, a large number of fire firefighters were dispatched to the region. Many firefighters continue to extinguish the fire so that the fire does not spread to other units and tanks.

The area of the fire was closed for entrance and exit, and the road in the area was closed to traffic.

Explanation from Aliağa District Governor

“The explosion caused by the gas entrapment in a boiler which was in the care. 4 people lost their lives, 2 people were injured. Work accidents, there is no external intervention, no attack,” said Aliağa Governor Bayram Yılmaz.

Explanation from TÜPRAŞ

In the statement made from TUPRAŞ, “The explosion occurred during the maintenance work on the product tank of Izmir Refinery at 09.25 o'clock today, and the refinery technical teams have been intervened and information will be given to the public about our future developments.”
