Iraqi protesters stormed Bahrain Embassy

A group of demonstrators stormed Bahrain's Baghdad embassy building hung the Palestinian flag over the US-sponsored workshop held in Manama, Bahrain's capital that included the so-called "deal of the century".

Hundreds of Iraqis stormed the Bahrain embassy, torched its flag, and raised the Palestine flag over a US-sponsored Manama workshop on Palestine.

Passing the entrance to the building, demonstrators lowered the Bahraini flag and hanged a Palestinian flag here while some other protesters set fire to the US flag and occupation regime rag.

Iraqi security forces broke up the rally and protesters could only enter the embassy courtyard.

On Friday, the Iraqi ministry of foreign affairs issued a statement on its website condemning the protesters' actions, saying it was committed to protecting foreign missions in Iraq.

It also said the Iraqi authorities had arrested several of the protesters, without specifying the number of those detained.

"We affirm our commitment to the inviolability of diplomatic missions, the need to ensure that their security is not threatened and that the security of embassies is not violated," said the statement.

"We have arrested a number of the instigators and have taken measures to protect the Bahraini embassy against any intrusion… and to prevent any breach of security," it added.

The government of Bahrain said it had "decided to recall its ambassador ... for consultations" and held Baghdad responsible for its embassy security, according to a statement from its official news agency.

The US-sponsored economic workshop titled "peace for prosperity", hosted by Bahrain has ended on Thursday, is said to be the first organization with articles for the benefit of the occupation regime in accordance with the so-called "deal of century" plan.

Palestinian groups, notably Hamas, have called on countries in the region to boycott the workshop, saying that the workshop was hostile to the Palestinian people and their historical rights.
