Vasip Şahin, the governor of Istanbul, made and explanation to the journalists about the arrest of the nightclub attacker. Şahin said that the attacker confessed to the crime, and that the fingerprint match was compliant.

Şahin said: "The perpetrator of this humiliating attack has been arrested by an operation in Esenyurt's province. Abdulkadir Masharipov, the code name, Abu Muhammad Horasani, a person born in Uzbekistan in 1983. A well-educated person knew 4 languages trained in Afghanistan. It is estimated that the terrorist arrived in our country in January of 2016. During this operation, approximately 7,200 hours of camera surveys were examined. Our 2000 policemen took part in special operations. We carried out a joint operation with the support of the Intelligence Department in Konya, Hatay, İzmir and in our province. When the terrorist arrives in Istanbul, he first rents a house in Başakşehir and then he hides himself by changing another house in the last day near the day of the incident. On the day of the event he also comes to the scene from Zeytinburnu and takes action. During this study, operations were performed approximately on 150-200 addresses. 50 people were taken into custody during these operations. Together with the terrorist, 197 thousand US dollars, two pistol magazines, one of these is air gun, the pistol and two sim cards were seized. The terrorist accepted his offense. At the same time, the fingerprint examination was also compliant."

Governor Şahin noted that the attack was made in the name of Daesh.
