Minister Çavuşoğlu evaluates US decision to withdraw from Syria

"It is not so easy to leave a terrorist organization after being so intertwined with that terrorist organization," said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu while evaluating the decision of US President Trump to withdraw from Syria.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu participated in the meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye on January 9.

At the meeting, the latest developments in Turkiye's foreign policy and country priorities in the upcoming period were evaluated.

Stating that there are countries trying to discourage the US decision to withdraw from Syria, Çavuşoğlu said: "There are different voices in the US. We are trying to consolidate all of these."

Noting that they are evaluating these issues with their partners, Çavuşoğlu underlined that have already said repeatedly that they strongly reject the US rhetoric, especially "do not kill Kurds", which said the US uses it as an excuse.

"Here, we see that the US encounters some difficulties while withdrawing Syria. It is not so easy to leave a terrorist organization after being so intertwined with that terrorist organization. This is one of the difficulties that the US encounters." he said.

He said that they want to coordinate the U.S. withdrawal process from Syria with Western counterparts, as well as Russia and Iran, where they worked together in Astana format.

The issue of Idlib

"No problems so far in the implementation of the Idlib reconciliation," said Çavuşoğlu Referring to the issue of Syria's Idlib.

"We will continue to contribute to the end the war in Yemen"

Referring to the Yemen issue, Cavusoglu said it would be one of its priorities to solve this problem.

"We will hold the OIC Yemen Contact Group meeting at the end of January or in February. We will continue to contribute to the end of the war in Yemen. It is not enough to support the UN's efforts alone. We, as Turkiye, will also contribute [to end the war]."
