In 1990s, especially in Turkiye’s Kurdistan, PKK had been attacked and massacred those who did not obeyed to them. Ekrem Öner was attacked in one evening in front of his house with bread in his hand while he was returning from work. Öner, 23 years ago, in Batman, passed away with the bullets of the PKK at the age of 28, in his bloom of youth age.

The assassination of Öner on November 13, 1993, because he lived only in an Islamic life and became PKK's target in Batman, is still preserving its freshness in memory.

Martyr Ekrem Öner was born in Batman in 1965. He was doing a minibus driver in the city, he was unaware of Islam until his marriage. He had even doubt about the existence of heaven and hell. At her mother's request, his older sister, who is in the Islamic cause, gave some books for him to read. Öner also wanted other books as he reads these books, so he has read books for a while. One day, seeing the Prophet Muhammad in his dream, Öner found the truth path because of that dream.

Wife of Martyr Ekrem does not leave him alone on this blessed path. Soon, she started wearing veil. While their impersonations in Islamic morality are immediately perceived by the people around them, this picture is welcomed with joy in the face of conscious Muslims. Öner which was threatened by PKK on the grounds of his Islamic attitude and activities, was also often warned by his relatives. Ignoring any threats and warnings, Öner said, "I hope that I will be a martyr, and that martyrdom is a very beautiful thing.”

On November 13, 1993, Öner parked his car in front of his house in the evening, he was fired by two men of PKK with guns and arrived at the martyrdom he wanted from his Lord every night. His wife and friends who came to him during his last breaths, were witnessed to the word of tawhid.

Ekrem Öner, the father of two children who were slaughtered in an ambush by PKK for adopting an Islamic life, his wife told that it is for the first time after many years she explained what she lived after him in the anniversary of his murder.

His wife Selma Öner said that, when Ekrem was slaughtered, she had a 9-month-old boy named Muhammad Ata and she was also pregnant for a month-old pregnancy.

Mrs. Selma, in her younger age, has grown up her children among all sort of difficulties being a mother and a father to her children. She was struggling for life also helped her children who remained orphan by PKK, for their education.

In spite of all the difficulties she has experienced, Mrs. Selma raised her sons with Islamic morality that she inherited from her husband. She does not stop praising Allah even when she shares her sorrows.

"My husband delivered his soul to Allah in my arms"

Mrs. Selma expressed her feeling for her husband said that her love to her husband is more than the first day, and added, "My husband was martyred in 1993. He was slaughtered by the hands of the tyrants in front of the door when he came to the house. When he was opening the door with bread in his hand, those tyrants were shouting at him from behind. They fired at him as soon as he looked at back. When I took my husband’s head between my arms, he did nothing but saying the word of tawhid. My husband martyred in the hospital, and thank Allah.

"My husband changed a hundred percent after the dream"

Mrs. Selma said her husband found the truth path because of a dream he had seen, “After he had dreamed, he found truth path and he wanted me to cover too and I said I will. Then he started to read religious books and thankfully he found the truth path. My husband changed a hundred percent after the dream. I was watching his salaah envyingly. When he was a man who did not pray before, he prayed so regularly that I never saw anyone standing so well."

"He was threatened because of his Islamic life"

"Why did you grow your beard and why your wife is covered?" PKK member were asking him said Mrs. Selma and added: "He was threatened because of his Islamic life. He was growing his beard, people around were asking why did he grow his beard. People were asking him, they were pressuring my husband by saying, ‘Why is she covered? 'Why have you changed? You were a man who has not prayed before, what happened now?' Thankfully he was an Allah-loving person, who found a path of right, and handed his soul to Allah on that path. They stopped his car and asked him not to listen religious music. Also asked him to cut his beard. He was answering them as, ‘Did I give any damage to you? No. You do whatever you want, why do you bother with my car and my beard?’”

"After the dream, my husband started reading the Qur'an and began to write"

Mrs. Selma said her husband was martyred because of her Islamic experience and added, "Thank goodness my husband was worthy of the way he went. My husband did not know how to read the Qur'an. After the dream, he started to read the Qur'an, he was reading and writing both. He was reading religious books. After him, sometimes we got hungry and thirsty, I came to today with the help of Allah, thank Allah I have had two my children, my Allah has given me strength and I raised my children with Islamic morality and discipline. It is very difficult to be a mother and a father. Twenty-four years have passed since my husband passed away and his love has not stopped and will not stop.”
