People asked to evacuate Dicle riverside houses

The water level in the river is increasing because of the rupture one of the gates of the Dicle [Tigris]Dam gate in Diyarbakır. The governor's office has decided to evacuate riverside homes.

One of the 3 gates of the Dicle Hes Dam, which is located in the Selman Neighborhood of Eğil, district of Diyarbakır province, ruptured on Thursday mid-night due to pressurized water.

The water level is rising in the river due to the failure to replace the broken gate. Diyarbakır Governorate has formed a crisis table on the issue; the decision was taken to evacuate some houses in the neighborhoods of the riverside.  

While riverside houses were evacuated by the gendarmerie, AFAD teams frequently announced on the Ten-Eyed Bridge and asked for measures to be taken. It was seen that some of the tradesmen were collecting tables and chairs left to the riverside for tea.

Police, AFAD and underwater search-and-rescue teams are waiting on the Fiskaya Bridge.

On the other hand, because of the increase in water level on the Diyarbakır-Silvan Highway, the Tigris River Bridge was closed to traffic allegations were unfounded.

Diyarbakır Governor Güzeloğlu issued a statement

Diyarbakir Governor Hasan Basri Güzeloğlu made a statement on his Twitter account regarding the evacuation and measures.

"Since the discharge of water is expected to last approximately three days, maintaining this sensitivity and not abandoning the measures are very important for the safety of life and property, said Diyarbakır Governor Hasan Basri Güzel.
