Poverty and unemployment reached peak in Gaza

Poverty and unemployment are rising due to economic troubles in Gaza, which has been under the blockade of zionists for about 10 years.

Poverty and unemployment have reached serious levels in the Gaza Strip, where the zionists have been blockaded by land, sea, and air since the elections held in Palestine in 2006 and Hamas won.

According to the report of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the poverty rate in Gaza, which the population is close to 2 million people, is 53 percent. The main cause of poverty is the crisis caused by the zionist blockade and the production stagnation in the local sector.

In addition to the blockade of the terrorist gang, following the military coup in July 2013, Egypt keeps the Rafah Border Gate, which is the only connection point of Gaza to the world, closed most of the time. The Egyptian government has also destroyed the tunnels that opened to Gaza, so many food and supplies are not available in the city.

The city, where under the blockage of the zionists, is suffering from the fuel, electricity is not supplied to homes and workplaces in more than half of the day. This causes the production centers to shut down or its production to decrease.

According to a report released by the United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs Coordination Office at the end of 2016, 1.3 million people need help in Gaza, which the population is close to 2 million. Some 47 percent of the families have difficulty reaching safe food.
