President Erdoğan holds a phone conversation with Trump

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with the U.S. President Donald Trump, discussed bilateral relations, as well as recent developments in Syria.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call on Monday night.

During the talk, the Turkish Presidency said the two leaders discussed bilateral developments as well as recent developments in Syria.

Stating that Turkiye welcomes President Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria, President Erdoğan reminded that Turkiye, in this regard, stands ready to lend every kind of support to the U.S., its NATO ally.

Emphasizing that the Manbij Roadmap should be completed in order to prevent any authority vacuum in the region and that the elements which seek to hinder the implementation of the withdrawal decision should be denied any opportunity, the two leaders touched upon the importance of healthy communication with the public.

President Erdoğan and President Trump also discussed the idea of forming a terror-free safe zone in the north of Syria on the basis of Syria’s territorial integrity.

President Erdoğan underlined that Turkiye has no problems with the Kurds and that Turkiye’s goal is to fight against terrorist organizations DAESH, the PKK and the PKK’s Syrian branches, which pose a threat to Turkiye’s national security.

The two leaders also agreed to advance the bilateral economic relations.
