Responds to Turkiye newspaper, which links Holy Birth to FETO

Union of Scholars [İttihad-ul Ulama] and Prophet Lovers Platform reacted to Turkiye newspaper’s headline news that said “Why still Religious Affairs backing Holy Brith events? It is a FETO’s project.”

In the news published with the signing of Abdülhakim Arvas in the Newspaper of Turkiye, the events came to be seen as "FETO Project" and "weirdness" by ignoring the activities of Holy Birth organized with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people every year and the reactions came from the Union of Scholars and the Prophet Lovers Platform.

Mehmet Şenlik, the vice-chairman of the Union of Scholars and the Madrassas, says that the “news” is a conscious step taken to prevent to understand and learning the Prophet, while the Platform of the Prophet Lovers says that the accusations of the Turkiye newspaper about Holy Birth activities are Islamofobi and bigotry.

In the statement made by Prophet Lovers Platform, it is pointed out that linking the Prophet Muhammad's Holy Birthday to a dirty structure is more of an obligation than ignorance and blindness, which celebrate by Muslim peoples in many Islamic countries for centuries.

“Making Holy Birth as a polemical subject is because of the Islamofobi or ignorance and bigotry”

According to the statement made by the Platform of the Prophet Lovers, “Holy Birth is celebrated, in some of the Islamic countries, according to Hegira Calendar, in the month of Rebiul-Evvel, and in others according to the Calendar of Gregorian. Making Holy Birth as a polemical subject is because of the Islamofobi or ignorance and bigotry while the only aim of these kind of activities is to make the Prophet widely known.”

At the end of the explanation, Prophet Lovers Platform said, “Our Prophet is the common value of all the ummah and all Muslims. It is everyone's job to introduce him and make love him. It is absolutely wrong to make such activities unique to a group, or a society or an institution. As Prophet Lovers, we do not find such approaches to be true, we call on all Islamic groups to organize such events.”

Mehmet Şenlik Vice-Chairman of the Union of the Scholars and the Madrasas, made explanation about the accusations of the Turkiye newspaper about the events of the Holy Birth, said that it is a movement that started from the after the third century of Hegira and continued, saying that Holy Birth is not a new tradition.

“Holy Birth events are the traditions of Saladin and Nur ad-Din Zengi”

Şenlik remarked that celebrating of Holy Birth events were from Saladin and Nur ad-Din Zengi era and said that, “They then made great ceremonies. From other regions, the states gathered scholars, people. According to the narrations, the place where these ceremonies are made is stated as Nusaybin. From that time onwards, programs of the Holy Birth are being made up to day-to-day. Since the Republican era, this event has begun to be downgraded.”

Şenlik stated that Holy Birth events started with Nur ad-Din Zengi and Saladin in order to give mass messages to mass crowds. Today, this tradition is being continued by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Prophet Lovers Platform, the Mustazafs Association and various non-governmental organizations.

“The Prophet and his divine message are explained in the ceremony of the Holy Birth”

Şenlik stated that commemoration of Prophet is a duty on every Muslim and it is palaver to say it is a bid’ah.

Şenlik said that, “These are systematic practices that are consciously imposed on people to forget the Prophet Muhammad and to lose Islamic culture. Muslims should not be influenced by them. These ceremonies are needed to live their own religion in a beautiful way and to understand and learn the Prophet beautifully. The Prophet and his divine message are told in these ceremonies. Each year, one or two of his important accomplishments are highlighted. This is not a bid’ah. They prisoned Islam into the mosques. Director of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez said, ‘every imam must take a mihrab to his back and go out on the street.’ Islam must be told on the streets, at the bazaar and at such events. With such ceremonies, people head to Islam.”
