Scottish parliament to vote for independence referendum

The Scottish Parliament will vote for a referendum on leaving Britain.

One day before the Britain has sent its note to Brussels to start the process of separation from the European Union (EU), Scottish Parliament will be voting for a referendum on independence.

London, on the other hand, does not allow Scotland's independence referendum before the process of withdrawal from the EU is complete. In order to make a referendum in Scotland, the Government of England has to give its consent.

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May will send the letter "Divorce from the EU" to the Union Commission on Wednesday, while Scotland is certain to accept the referendum for independence from Great Britain.

The controversial "total exit" strategy adopted by the British government in the process of secession from the EU brought Scottish independence back to the agenda.

Scotland, where the majority voted in favor of staying in the EU in the 2016 referendum, does not want to leave the European domestic market. British Prime Minister May, who opposed privileged practices, said they were ready to recognize additional powers in Scotland. The UK government aims to extract the country from the European internal market as well as the political institutions of the EU.

Scotland's Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon is planning a referendum on independence between the fall of 2018 and the spring of 2019 before Britain's departure from the EU, while Theresa May opposes the UK's referendum on leaving the United Kingdom in Scotland without leaving the EU.

In the independence referendum held in 2014, 55 percent of Scots voted to stay in Britain. The Scottish government is moving from the point of view has changed with a decision to leave politically and economically from EU. Recent polls show that it is doubtful that Britain's secession vote will succeed. In Brexit's referendum in June 2016, 62 percent of Scots voted to stay in the EU. (Mustafa Kaynak - ILKHA)
