We will by no means allow the tragedy of President Mohammed Morsi to be forgotten

"Just as we have not let the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, be forgotten, we will by no means allow the tragedy of President Mohammed Morsi to be forgotten, either," President Erdoğan said in a meeting with journalists on Thursday.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Turkey representatives of international media outlets at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.

President Erdoğan stated that Turkey has a very busy agenda due to both the region it is located in and the developments occurring in internal politics.

By drawing attention to some 5.5 million people with Turkish roots living in European countries, Turkish President said that it is impossible for Turkey to be indifferent to the developments taking place in Europe, North Africa, the Caucasians, the Balkans or in Central Asia.

"We primarily work to ensure our own national security"

Underscoring that as Turkey, they see the problems of Libyan, Yemeni and Egyptian people as their own problems, President Erdoğan said that Turkey does not have an irredentist understanding while dealing with problems in these countries.

"That is so because we do not have an eye on anyone's, any country's land, sovereignty or internal affairs. We primarily work to ensure our own national security and the safety of lives and properties of our citizens, and then work to contribute to the stability, peace, and tranquility in our region and in places that are dear to our hearts," he added.

"I believe that the UN will put Morsi’s suspicious death on its agenda"

Mentioning Egypt's martyred President Mohammed Morsi, President Erdoğan noted: "Just as we have not let the murder of your colleague, the late Jamal Khashoggi, be forgotten, we will by no means allow the tragedy of President Mohammed Morsi to be forgotten, either."

"We will work in order for the issue to be brought to light, using all the means within the international law to the end."

The President expressed that he believes that the United Nations, which considers Turkey's attitude regarding Khashoggi’s murder to be just, will put Morsi's suspicious death on its agenda and bring those who are responsible for his death to account.

President Erdoğan also urged international media to boldly address the issue, and stressed: "We must prevent similar sufferings, tragedies and scenes of embarrassment for the humanity from reoccurring."

Further stating that neither societies nor humanity can benefit from a media, which has lost its plausibility, President Erdoğan underlined that all they expect from journalists is to pursue truths only.
