6,000 Turkish citizens in prisons abroad

"There are 6,000 Turkish nationals in prisons abroad said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Responding to the question asked by CHP Niğde Deputy Ömar Fethi Gürer, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said there are at least 6 thousand Turkish citizens in prisons abroad.

Minister Çavuşoğlu said that Turkish citizens in prisons abroad are in general under arrest for drug use and fraud crimes.

Çavuşoğlu stated that citizens who have been detained abroad or received criminal conviction and have not informed Turkish representatives are not included in this number.

"Citizens abroad, in general, have been charged usually from drug trafficking and/or use, drug supply, illegal entry to the country and/or visa violations and fraud," he added.
