66 percent of calls to 112 are unfounded

Turkish Interior Ministry said Saturday that 66 percent of calls to the emergency call center "112" in the first 7 months of this year were unfounded.

The Ministry of Interior announced that the emergency call center 112 had received a total of 20,936,052 calls in the first 7 months of 2019, of which 6,989,022 were valid calls, while 13, 947,030 were unfounded calls.

"Those who made unfounded calls to 112 emergency call centers were instructed to implement the administrative fine effectively," a written statement from the Interior Ministry said.

An administrative fine of ₺250 was imposed on 167 people who unnecessarily engaged 112 emergency call centers for reasons such as asking for addresses, trying phones, ordering and making unsubstantiated notices, the statement read.
