A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit off Tohoku Region, Japan

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck off Tohoku Region in northern Honshu, Japan, at around 16:18 JST on Saturday.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 130 km (81 miles) southeast of Aomori, Tohoku region, with a depth of 60 km (37 miles).

There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.

The earthquake has not prompted any tsunami advisories.
