A 5.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Peru

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 took place in the afternoon on Wednesday at 5:27 pm local time near 40 km northwest of Minas de Marcona, Provincia de Nazca, Ica, Peru.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 42 kilometers (around 26 miles), according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru.

There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
