Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek resigns

Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Melih Gökçek said that he step down in accordance with the order of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and resigned from his post in his statement regarding his resignation.

Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek has announced that he resigned from his post.

Gökçek gave the following statements in his statement regarding his resignation:

"My president and my leader, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, asked me to resign. Some thought that I will put an intense reaction and scratched the event. Obey the order, no matter what! When we built this hope, our leader that day thought that I can contribute by being mayor. Today he asked me to resign which another contribution. I am worried that if we do not resign, it will be unfair to the hopes that we believe in. I do not think that we are tired, but I am fulfilling Erdoğan's demand that I believe that he will make my country one of the top country."
