At least 40 people injured in train crash in Alexandria, Egypt

At least forty people were injured on Tuesday in a collision between two carriages in the northern city of Alexandria, Egypt.

About 27 ambulances were dispatched to the site of the accident to take the injured to the nearby hospitals.

“The accident occurred at 9:15 at Alexandria train station, when a train leaving the station heading to Cairo hit a tractor moving behind it,” the Egyptian Railways Authority said in a statement.

It also noted that those responsible for the accident were detained and transferred to the Public Prosecution.

In April, eleven people were killed and 98 others were injured when four carriages of a train derailed at a station near Toukh as it traveled north from the capital, Cairo, to the city of Mansoura.
