Douyin users under 14 years old must use the youth mode, which limits their using time to 40 minutes a day and bans their using from 10 pm to 6 am.
The company said the mode will aim to protect teenagers from becoming addicted to short-video platforms.
The decision was taken after Beijing's announcement to limit screen time for minors.
