Death toll from eastern Turkey earthquake increases to 22: Interior Minister

22 people were dead while 39 people rescued from rubble of collapsed houses, buildings in the 6.8-magnitude earthquake, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said in a press conference on Saturday.

"Four people died in Doğanşehir district of Malatya and 18 others in Elazig province. 39 people were also rescued from the rubble of collapsed houses and buildings "said the Minister at a press conference in Elazığ.

He added that a prison in Turkey's eastern Adıyaman, which was damaged in the earthquake, would be evacuated.

The earthquake, centered on Sivrice district in Elazığ, was felt by poeple in neighboring provinces and as far afield as Iraq, Syria, Iran and Lebanon.
