President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at a symposium titled "Local Administrations under the Presidential System of Government" at the Presidential Complex.

Stating that Turkiye, in the course of last five years, has gone through many developments of historic proportions one after another, President Erdoğan described the transition to the Presidential System of Government as one of the most important of these developments.

"In fact, debates on the system of government in Turkiye have not newly emerged but rather date back a long time in history," President Erdoğan said.

"Our quest for a system of government, which began with the start of the constitutional period in the Ottoman Empire and which took a sharp turn with the proclamation of the Republic following the War of Independence, hasn’t stopped in the multi-party period, either, he added.

Underlining that years of coalitions cost Turkiye dearly under the Parliamentary System of Government, President Erdoğan said: "Throughout those years, which are now remembered for unending crises, chaos, coups d’état, juntas and instability, every statesman and intellectual mindful of his responsibilities insisted that our system of government needed to change."

Underscoring that faith and morals form the essence of civilization, President Erdoğan said: "Civilizations without faith and morals either induce their own destruction or an external influence instigate their inevitable demise."

Stating that the problem with the contemporary world is that it promotes a civilization that is devoid of faith and morals Turkish President noted that they will not make that mistake. "Never will we neglect our faith and moral values while building our civilization on our historical and cultural experience."
