Elections to be held in Algeria on April 18 were postponed due to President Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika pull out of the presidential election race.

Algerian President Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika announced that he had postponed the presidential elections and dropped his bid to run for the fifth term.

Bouteflika, the 82-year-old who came to power in 1999 and served for four terms, once again nominated in the presidential elections, has been protesting nationwide for some time.

Bouteflika, who had been paralyzed in 2013, was being treated in Switzerland since February 24.

Bouteflika's withdrawn was said to be due to health problems.
