Farmers' solar-powered solution to power cuts

Farmers are trying to find a solution to the problem of electricity cut, which is often experienced in Mardin, with the solar energy system.

Because of the frequent electricity cut, waves and heavy bill in Mardin's town of Nusaybin, farmers establish irrigation systems by installing the solar energy system.

Hacı Kerimoğlu, who has a farm in the village of Demirtepe, irrigates 20 acres of the apricot garden by producing electricity with solar panels he has established due to heavy electricity bill and cuts.

Kerimoglu stated that water engines were damaged due to electrical cuts and waves, and they were very pleased with the solar panels.

"We built a solar system for irrigation for 20 acres of apricot gardens. We used to do irrigation with tractors and electricity. We were not able to do the irrigation we wanted for our trees, as well as our engines were damaged because of the waves in the electricity," said Kerimoğlu.

Kerimoğlu expressed that they have received an invoice for 20-30 thousand Turkish Liras every month due to the use of electric but the solar power system cost him only 35,000 TL just once.
