First hot air balloon takes off in Mardin

The first free flight of the hot air balloon was carried in the ancient city of Dara, in Mardin's central Artuklu district, southeast of Turkey.

The first free flight of the hot air balloon was made in the ancient city of Dara as part of balloon tourism, which will be implemented with the project launched by the governorship of Mardin with the slogan "We are flying Mardin".

Stating the flight as beautiful, Mardin Governor Mustafa Yaman said these flights hopefully will contribute very significantly to their goals.

"Mardin is a very exciting city and looks stunning from the sky view. another beautiful one from the sky" said Ömer Kafkas, an official of balloon flight coordination.

Adding that their free flights start on Wednesday, Kafkas noted that they will be able to fly in many areas of Mardin.

DIKA Secretary-General Yılmaz Altindag also stated that Mardin is a world city and that they are always ready to support this event.

Mardin Governor Mustafa Yaman, Provincial Police Chief Hasan Onar and General Secretary of Tigris Development Agency [DIKA] Yılmaz Altindağ and some guests watched the ancient city from the sky on the first flight.

Balloon flights are scheduled from Wednesday to take place in line with the weather conditions at sunrise.

Governor Yaman stated that they have watched the city and ancient Dara on fertile Mesopotamian plain, added that they waiting for guests to watch this stunning view through balloon flights.

Noting that they have reached more than 3.5 million tourists and achieved their goal in 2018, Governor Yaman described their goal to reach 5.5 million tourists in 2019.
