HDP Mayor of Karayazı suspends from office

Melike Göksu, the HDP mayor of Karayazı, district of Erzurum province, was removed from office, while Mesut Tabancıoğlu, the governor, was appointed as acting mayor.

Erzurum Governor's Office issued a written statement said Karayazı mayor Melike Göksu removed from office and replaced with the state-appointed official.

The statement read that Karayazı Mayor Melike Göksu was removed from office due to making propaganda of a terrorist organization while Penal Department no. 16 of the Supreme Court has upheld 7 years and 6 months sentence ruled by Erzurum 2nd Heavy Penal Court on the charged that she is a member of an armed terrorist organization.
