Iran reports 2,206 new cases of COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours

143 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of the deaths in Iran to 2,077, said Iran's Health Ministry Public Relations Office Kianoush Jahanpour on Wednesday.

“2,206 new cases were confirmed with the coronavirus in the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 27,017,” Jahanpour said.

9,655 people have recovered and discharged from hospitals,” he added.

Iran reported its first confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections on 19 February 2020 in Qom. Iran has the third highest number of COVID-19 deaths after China and Italy, the highest in Western Asia and the fourth-highest number of COVID-19 cases, surpassed only by Mainland China, Italy, and Spain.
