Iraq captures deputy IS leader, PM Kadhimi says

Iraqi security forces have captured Sami Jasim, a high-ranking member of the Islamic State in charge of the group's finance and a deputy of Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi announced on Monday.

“While our ISF heroes focused on securing the elections, their INIS colleagues were conducting a complex external operation to capture Sami Jasim, who was in charge of Daesh finance, and a deputy of Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi. Long live Iraq, and our brave heroes,” Kadhimi tweeted.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of the Islamic State (IS) group, was killed in a raid by US forces in northwestern Syria on 26 October 2019.
