Iraq refutes allegations of “military operation in Kirkuk”

The Iraqi government denies the allegations that a military operation has been launched in southern Kirkuk. Kirkuk Deputy Governor Abdurrahman Talabani announced that military operation of the Iraqi army in the southern city is not against Peshmerga.

A written statement from the Joint Operations Commander of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense stated that the allegations that the military operation was launched in southern Kirkuk are not correct.

“There is no military operation in Kirkuk. Everything here is calm,” said Kirkuk Deputy Governor Abdurrahman in a statement to Sputnik.

“Our security forces are in cleaning action around of Kirkuk in retaken places,” said War Media Network's written statement.

The statement also warned media outlets to “avoid news that could turn the situation into a crime”, otherwise the legal process would be initiated. (ILKHA)
