Iraqi PM: We want to improve bilateral relations with Turkey in all areas

The newly elected Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has met with Turkey's Ambassador to Baghdad, Fatih Yıldız, Media Office of the Prime Minister announced in a statement on Saturday.

“Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi received, the Turkish in Ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yildiz, in which he congratulated for the cabinet in gaining the confidence of the Parliament, confirming his country aspiration to strengthening the bilateral relationship,” the statement said, adding that Al-Kadhimi thanked the Turkish government's leadership and people, expressing keenness to strengthening the commercial relation with neighboring Turkey in all fields; they discussed issues of common concern and the importance of increasing the trade collaboration and counter-terrorism.

On 9 April 2020, Kadhimi was named by President Barham Salih as prime minister-designate, the third person tapped to lead the country in just 10 weeks as it struggled to replace a government that fell last year after months of deadly protests. Kadhimi was nominated by President Barham Salih, state television reported, shortly after the previous designated prime minister, Adnan al-Zurfi, announced he was withdrawing having failed to secure enough support to pass a government.

Iraqi parliament granted on Thursday a vote of confidence to al-Kadhimi and his partial Cabinet, to succeed the resigned government headed by Adel Abdul-Mahdi.
