Kurdistan: All governing body of Gorran Movement steps down after being defeated in Iraqi elections

The entire governing body of the Change (Gorran) Movement stepped down after it had suffered a humiliating defeat in Iraq’s parliamentary elections.

The movement could not win a seat in the Iraqi parliamentary elections that were held on Sunday.

The movement ran for the Iraqi parliamentary election as a part of the coalition that included the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

The Coalition won 16 seats with all of them being for PUK.

Political observers have described the election result as a fatal blow for Gorran, saying that “Gorran was born in 2009 but died in 2021”.

The scale of Gorran's demise is represented by a 95% percent decrease in votes and it is now the sixth-largest political party in the Kurdistan Region.
