Magnitude 6.5 earthquake hits Crete, Greece

A Magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Crete, Greece, European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said on Monday.

The earthquake took place about 09:17:22 local time (UTC+03:00) 20 km south of Iraklion, according to the EMSC.

“Strong, some old stone buildings had minor damage, with a few stones that fell everyone went outside,” an eyewitness said.

At least 3 aftershocks over 3.5 magnitude have been registered.
