Magnitude 6.5 earthquake hits northeast Taiwan

A powerful magnitude 6.5 earthquake jolted northeastern Taiwan at 1:11 p.m. on Sunday, according to the country’s Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The epicenter of the quake was located 22.7 kilometers south of Yilan County Hall, with a focal depth of 66.8 km.

There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
