Merkel to pay a visit to Turkey

Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, will pay a working visit to Turkey at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 24, 2020, Turkey's presidency website announced in a statement on Thursday.

"During the talks to be held as part of the visit, the relations between Turkey and Germany and the steps for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation will be thoroughly discussed," the statement said.

High on the agenda of the talks will be Turkey-EU (European Union) relations, Turkey’s EU accession process, updating of the Customs Union and visa liberalization within the context of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the EU starting from July, according to the statement.

It also stated that besides bilateral relations, the two leaders would address regional and international issues, particularly Libya and Syria.

"Erdoğan and Chancellor Merkel will also inaugurate educational and social facilities of the Turkish-German University during the visit," it added.
