"Operation Kapan-8 Ararat Mount" launched in eastern Turkey

"Operation Kapan-8 Ararat Mount" has been launched against PKK members in Ağrı province of eastern Turkey, the country's Interior Ministry announced in a statement on Friday.

"12,000 military personnel, including Gendarmerie Special Operations, Police Special Operations and Security Guards, are taking part in the operation," the Ministry said.

The PKK conflict in Turkey is commonly estimated to have killed around 30,000-40,000 people since 1984 when the organization staged first attacks in southeast Turkey.
