Outrageous attack on a mosque in Diyarbakır

An outrageous attack was carried out by unidentified people before evening's prayers at the Ali Mosque, located on 75 Road in the Central Kayapınar District of Diyarbakır, the southeastern part of Turkey.

Some people or persons who entered the mosque before evening prayers broke the Qur'an reading desks in the mosque and threw them down from the top floor, causing damage.

The headscarves of female students and prater rugs were tossed around in the mosque.

Similar attacks were carried out against this mosque last 2 months ago, according to information from the mosque community while attacks against the mosque have been repeated in the last 7-8 months.

A drug-addicted gang who allegedly made a residence around the mosque attacked and damaged the mosque. It was learned from the mosque community that they sometimes sleep in the mosque.

In the site, where Kayapınar District Mufti office also located, there was a boarding school for female students. Because of the attacks, the safety of the students was not provided and the boarding education was terminated and converted to the day training center.

Police officers took samples from the broken reading desk and launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
