President Erdoğan signs Supreme Military Council’s decisions

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed the decisions of the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ). Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın announced the decisions to the public.

Presidential Spokesperson Kalın announced the Council’s decisions during a press conference at the Presidential Complex.

Spokesperson Kalın stated that according to the Council’s decisions, signed by President Erdoğan and effective from 30 August 2019, 14 generals/admirals will be promoted to a higher rank and 40 colonels to general/admiral, while the term of office of 12 generals/admirals will be extended by a year and of 313 colonels by two years.

Saying that one general will be retired on age grounds as of 1 September 2019 and 47 generals/admirals due to lack of cadre as of 30 August 2019, Spokesperson Kalın noted: “The number of generals/admirals, which currently stands at 241, will be 233 as of 30 August 2019.”

Spokesperson Kalın added that details of the promotions and appointments will be published on the Ministry of National Defense’s website.
