Rabies cases increases in Turkey

Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry drew attention to the increase in rabies cases in Turkey during the 7-year period from 2010 to 2017.

Rabies cases, which were 152,236 in 2010, rose to 243,769 in 2017, according to the report released by the ministry.

The report stated that an average of 200 thousand cases of rabies is applied to health institutions each year, the number of rabies vaccines administered within the scope of treatment was 947 thousand 438 in 2017.

The report highlighted spending of ₺16 million 604 thousand on the rabies vaccine, equine and human-induced rabies immunoglobulin in 2017, while that figure is expected to reach 20 million in 2019.

Every year around 59 thousand people in the world lose their lives due to rabies is stated.
