Regime attacks on Turkey's observation post in Idlib

A Turkish observation post in Syria’s Idlib was attacked with mortar fire and shelling from an area controlled by Syrian regime forces, causing damage but no casualties, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

A mortar and shelling attack was carried out by the regime forces against the observation post of the Turkish Army settled in Tension-Reduction Zone in Idlib.

"An attack was carried out from the Tall Bazan region, which is under control of Syrian regime forces in Idlib tension reduction zone, with artillery/mortar shots which were considered to be deliberate to our observation post number 9 in the Murak region," said Turkish Defense Ministry.

The ministry said its forces immediately retaliated with heavy weapons and it made representations to Moscow over the incident, the second attack of its kind within a week.

Stating that there are no causalities in the post, the ministry said facility, equipment, and materials in the base region have partially damaged.

In a press conference on Friday at Ataturk Airport State Guesthouse before departing for Tajikistan, Turkish President Erdoğan underlined that they will not remain silent if the Syrian regime continues its attacks on observation posts in Idlib.
