Of the 13 killed, 11 were women, the police said. Gwalior Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi said the road accident occurred around 7 am local time when the women, who were cooks at an anganwadi center, were returning home after work.

“The terrible accident caused by a collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw in Gwalior has claimed several precious lives and has brought great sorrow. I pray to God to give strength to the affected families.” the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a tweet.

“They should not consider themselves alone. The state government will give Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured,” he added.
