Saudi Arabia bans iftar, suhoor gatherings in all mosques

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced to ban iftar and suhoor gatherings in all mosques during the holy month of Ramadan in an effort to contain the sharp rise in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Presidency will provide ready-made food to the worshipers in the Masjid al-Haram, while Sehri will not be allowed in the Prophet’s Mosque. No one will be allowed to eat in the courtyards of both mosques and everyone will be provided food individually,” said Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, the head of affairs of the two mosques.

“People will only be allowed to bring dates and water for themselves and will not be allowed to share them with anyone,” he added.

Saudi Arabia has so far reported 394,169 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 6,711 deaths and 380,772 recoveries.
