Suicide bomb panic in Şanlıurfa, SE of Turkey

Police caught a woman with a bomb set-up in a bag carrying in her hand in Şanlıurfa's Haşimiye Square on Thursday.

A woman suspected of a suicide bomb with a bomb set-up in a bag carrying in her hand was captured by police in Haşimiye Square, a central district of Şanlıurfa.

According to the information, police followed a woman on suspicion walking in the city's busiest square, Haşimiyah Square, with a backpackers and a bag in her.

Special-dressed bomb disposal teams were dispatched to the scene after the suspected woman threw the bag on the street. The examination found that the bag contained a bomb set-up.

Police took extensive security measures in the area and all surrounding streets were blocked to transportation.

The bag was detonated by a bag detonator and defused.

Şanlıurfa Provincial Police Chief Veysel Tipioğlu was informed of the incident. The street was reopened to traffic following a study by Crime Scene Investigation Teams.
