The strike was in the UK's national interest: British Prime Minister

British Prime Minister May said that the attack on Syria was "in the UK's national interest".

British Prime Minister Theresa May informed British MPs about the operation against Syria.

Briefing Parliament, Mrs. May insisted it was in the UK's national interest to act - insisting that "We have not done this because President Trump asked us to but because it was the right thing to do. We have done it because we believed it was the right thing to do. And we are not alone: there is broad-based international support for the action we have taken."

In a joint statement, the leaders of Canada, Germany, Italy, and Japan backed the action taken by the UK, France, and the US. They voiced their support for the decision taken by Britain, France, and the United States." May said.

May also said the government could make quick decisions if it coincided with national interests. In the UK, governments have no obligation to obtain parliamentary approval to take military intervention decisions.

Britain joined the attack on the Syrian regime with four planes from the Greek Cypriot Akrotiri Air Base.
