The inhabitants of Akyar (Mervanîyê) village of Batman's Gercüş (Gercewsê) district are living full of Ramadan.
A large part of the time is spent in the mosques to benefit from the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan in the village where there is no one offended. From 7 to 70 shows the most beautiful example of convergence with the conversation, tarawih prayer and response that everyone attends.
Lokman Avcı, the imam of the village, said that they talked about all the issues related to Muslims, especially “fiqh [Islamic law] courses”.
The young people show great interest in the reading Quran together
Referring to the programs they perform throughout the day during the month of Ramadan, Avcı, “In general, our villagers go to work after the morning prayer. They work a few hours. In the noon prayer, our congregation is ready for prayer in the mosque. It is worshiped until it's time to set. Then we set up our prayer for two. After prayer we continue reading Quran together. There is intense demand by our young people to respond. Everyone is free until after the evening time. They travels around in the village.”
Every day is preached before the night [isha] prayer
Avcı stated after fast-breaking in the evening in the mosque, they all perform prayer together and went to home for dinner.
“Iftar is given in our village every day. After dinner, we have 15 minutes of preaching. Advice every day before the night prayer. Our conversations are especially about fiqh. Until the end of Ramadan we finish all the fiqh issues as a chat.”
Morning prayer is being performed all together in the mosque
Avcı said that they had spent their Ramadan days with worship in a programmed manner. “We go to the village room and chat and drink tea after iftar. We awaken our sleeping villagers for sahur. When the morning adhan is being read, we come to the mosque and pray for the morning prayer all together. After the prayer we read the meaning of Qur'an 10 minutes. Especially our young people are participating in.”
