Turkey to consolidate safe zone project with more advanced steps

Turkey will consolidate with more advanced steps its sincere efforts for the implementation of the safe zone project that will enable Syrian refugees to return home as soon as possible.

The written statement, issued after the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by President Erdoğan, read: "It was stated during the meeting that Turkey will consolidate with more advanced steps its sincere efforts for the implementation of the safe zone project that will enable Syrian refugees to return home as soon as possible, and that Turkey will not hesitate to take action in order to ensure its own national security."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired the National Security Council meeting at the Presidential Complex.

Important domestic and foreign developments that are of close concern to Turkey’s security were discussed during the meeting, the written statement issued following the NSC meeting read.

The council was briefed on the fight determinedly conducted both at home and abroad against all the terrorist organizations, especially the PKK/PYD-YPG, FETO, and DAESH, which threaten Turkey’s national unity and solidarity as well as its permanence, and relevant issues were discussed according to the statement.

The statement underscored that it is shared with the international community at every opportunity that Turkey, always respectful of Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity, advocates a political solution on the basis of a new constitution.

"In this regard, it was stated that Turkey will consolidate with more advanced steps its sincere efforts for the implementation of the safe zone project that will enable Syrian refugees to return home as soon as possible, which Ankara considers to be a humanitarian issue, and that Turkey will not hesitate to take action in order to ensure its own national security," the statement concluded.
