Turkey vows to combat those who carry out ‘terrorism propaganda’ in the guise of ‘journalism’

“We will keep combating those who carry out ‘terrorism propaganda’ in the guise of ‘journalism,” said Fahrettin Altun, the Turkish Presidency's Director of Communications.

Altun posted a statement on his social media account regarding the cancellation of some articles of the Press Cards Regulation by the Council of State.

Altun emphasized that they had already started working on a better version, saying: “So long as we are on duty, we will keep combating those who carry out “terrorism propaganda” in the guise of 'journalism'. Terror sympathizers should not rejoice in vain”.

Asking, “Would anyone constantly making DAESH propaganda be granted 'Press Card' in any western country?” Director of Communications Altun noted the following:

“Would wearing oneself out shouting 'I'm a journalist bring anyone any positive results? No! But here in our country, the State is asked to recognize those making PKK or FETO propaganda as 'journalists'! We object to it. We reject this tainted mindset. We will not submit to the violent atmosphere that terrorist organizations, their supporters, and allies are attempting to build. Terrorist organizations are the number one enemy of democracy as well as freedom of thought and press. Our rightful fight will continue.”
