TurkStat releases animal production statistics data for December 2020

The bovine animal number increased by 1.6% in 2020 when compared to the previous year, and became 18 million 158 thousand heads, Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said in a statement on Tuesday.

In the group of bovine animals, cattle number increased by 1.6%, and became 17 million 963 thousand heads; buffalo number increased by 5.9% and became 195 thousand 088 heads.

Sheep and goat number increased by 11.6% in 2020 when compared to the previous year, and became 54 million 113 thousand heads

In the group of sheep and goat, sheep number increased by 13%, and became 42 million 127 thousand heads; goat number increased by 7% and became 11 million 986 thousand heads.

While wool, hair, mohair, and honey production increased, honey wax and silkworm cocoon production decreased

According to the previous year, wool production amount increased by 13% and became 79 thousand 754 tons, hair production increased by 3.9% and became 6 thousand 401 tons, and mohair production amount increased by 22% and became 463 tons.

Honey production decreased by 4.8% in 2020 when compared to the previous year, and became 104 thousand 077 tons. Honey wax decreased by 5.2% and became 3 thousand 765 tons.

The number of villages in action of sericulture decreased by 1.9% in 2020 when compared to the previous year, and became 662 units. The number of families involved in sericulture decreased by 4.7% and became 1 965 units. The number of egg boxes opened decreased by 2%, and became 5 thousand 775 units, while silkworm cocoon increased by 0.1%, and became 90 tons.
