Nikolay Mladenov, the United Nations (UN) Middle East Peace Process Special Coordinator, has published the first report on the implementation of the UN Security Council's decision to put an end to Israel's construction of settlements on occupied Palestinian territory.
In a statement he made regarding the issue, Mladenov noted that Israel is "in an open attempt to continue establishing settlements in occupied Palestinian territories".
Mladenov condemned Israel for continuing the construction of the settlements without considering the UN Security Council's decision, saying that this initiative meant a clear violation of international law.
The United Nations Security Council adopted a draft resolution calling for the first time in December 2016 since 1979, that the occupation Israel should stop building settlements in the West Bank. In the 15-member UN Security Council, 14 countries voted for the draft resolution, as well as the United States not to veto the design this time. Critically criticizing the decision, the invading israeli government also demanded that the US to vote the resolution. (ILKHA)
