As the regime, Russia and pro-regime forces continue to assault civilians in Idlib in the country's northwest, 10 United Nations Security Council members have called on the UN chief to set up an inquiry into why its hospitals have been singled out.

The US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Peru, Kuwait, Poland, the Dominican Republic, and Indonesia called on Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to "launch an investigation," noting the Syrian regime and Russia's attacks on hospitals.

The 10 member countries have asked UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to take action as the UNSC meets for the seventh time to discuss the growing number of people killed in Idlib.

Louis Charbonneau of the United Nations Human Rights Watch said that although the UN shared the coordinates of hospitals with the parties, hospitals were repeatedly bombed, calling it a "war crime."

Bombing and shelling in Syria for more than 90 days by the Government and Russia have led to "carnage in the so-called de-escalation zone" of Idlib, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock told the Security Council on Tuesday.

On 26 July, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) identified at least 450 civilians who have been killed since late April – including more than a hundred in the last two weeks alone.
