Closing Habur Border Gate is not anyone’s benefit

“Closing the Habur Border Gate is not anyone’s benefit, it will effect on people living on both sides,” said Iraqi Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.

Iraq Kurdistan Region Prime Minister responded to the Turkish journalists’ questions at the prime minister's residence on the referendum and negotiations with Turkiye and Baghdad.

Barzani, “The oil pipe valve is in the hands of Turkiye. But we have an agreement signed with Turkiye. On the contrary, we are in the process of laying natural gas pipes.”

Stating that the referendum is no way to threat to Turkiye Barzani said “Our relationship with Turkiye is based on the past and will continue. We certainly will not change the borders. The borders will remain as they are. We want to develop the dialogue with Turkiye.”

“We do not want a war on the road to independence,” Barzani said and continued as: “We want a solution through dialogue with Baghdad. Turkiye is our door that opens out. We will be a factor of stability for the region.”

Regarding the drill conducted in Habur, Barzani said: “I do not believe that the drill will be brought into our borders. But if they think about passing it, we will certainly be against it. But I do not expect it to happen and I do not think so.”
